I Am Real

I stood biting my lip,
Feeling too proud to shed a tear
I hoped that pain would somehow
Get lost in my thoughts
In my head I told myself over and
Over not to give in.
If I cry they will laugh;
They will continue to stare
They don’t even know me
But do they care?
They act as though I am different;
I feel, hear, and see the same as they do.
They assume I don’t belong
With only what they see
Being isolated from everyone and everything
Is like having a sharp blade
Digging deep into your side
I am a thorn and it saddens me
To know they don’t even know
The person I am.
